The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; a calling, not a business; a calling which your heart will exercise equally with your head - Osler
Robert Kent Smitherman, M.D. is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Fellow in the American College of Physicians
My vision of being a doctor has always been in the field of primary care. I choose internal medicine as a specialty as I found it to be one of the most rewarding- requiring an in-depth knowledge of general medicine to treat the patient as a whole. The opportunity to help and form long lasting relationships with our patients is the greatest reward that one can hope for.
I was born in Denver, Colorado, though largely raised in Houston, Texas. I attended The University of Texas at Austin for my undergraduate education, earning a B.B.A. in Finance. Later earning my medical degree and subsequent internal medicine training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Professional experience includes both working and teaching in academics as an Assistant Professor of Medicine for over 8 years at Baylor College of Medicine and the Ben Taub Community Hospital in Houston, Texas. In addition, I participated in several areas of research and clinical studies, with multiple medical journal and book chapter publications. I joined Medical Clinic of North Texas at the South Arlington office inside of the the USMD Hospital in 2008.
Since 2009 , I have been a consulting Internist for the Texas Rangers professional baseball team.
I live in Fort Worth, where I enjoy spending time with my wife and children.
