About Me

My brother-in-law was a medical student when I was in high school. He was an inspiration for me to pursue a medical career. While I had a pretty good idea what medical students did before I began earning my medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, I didn’t fully understand what physicians did day in and day out. During my internship and residency in internal medicine at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, my understanding became crystal clear and my love for the profession was affirmed.

As a physician who’s been in practice for more than three decades, the best part of my job is developing long-term relationships with the people who entrust me with their care. It is very satisfying and rewarding to present a unique solution to a problem that makes patients feel confident in their ability manage a chronic disease or an acute illness.

Caring for people with chronic disease actually inspired me to add another layer to my practice. After 17 years of caring for patients as an internist and primary care physician, in 2007 I joined a clinician in a diabetes specialty group. Developing this specialization has enhanced my awareness for the unique health care needs of people with diabetes.

As a member of the American Diabetes Association and a certified diabetes educator, I have developed a skill set to optimize treatment for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes with medications, diet and devices. The importance of diabetes self-management education is a cornerstone to my program.

While I encourage all of my patients to follow current health guidelines and be engaged in making informed decision about their care, I also understand each patient is a unique and they have unique circumstances. As such, I respect their beliefs, desires and abilities. Working together we can create a care plan that best serves their health needs long into the future.

When I’m not caring for patients, I love spending time with my family. My wife and I have two wonderful children who have grown into amazing adults. I enjoy golfing. It’s a great exercise I don’t have to make myself do. Bird watching is another hobby I enjoy.
