Being a great endocrinologist means listening and then matching the right treatments to the right people.
Mary E. Cox, M.D., M.H.S., C.C.D. is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
My goal as an endocrinologist is to help people with diabetes, bone loss, thyroid disease, and other hormone-related diseases to improve their health and quality of life.
I chose endocrinology because health problems like diabetes and obesity are so prevalent and dangerous, yet so treatable. There are so many treatment options out there, and helping people really improve their health means listening and then matching the right treatments with the right people.
I grew up in Texarkana, TX. I stayed in Texas for my undergraduate training (Texas A&M) and medical school (University of Texas at Houston) and then went off to North Carolina, at UNC and then Duke, for the rest of my medical training. After spending 6 years away from Texas, my husband and I decided to come back to be closer to our friends and families.
While working at Duke, I had the opportunity to complete a Masters in Health Sciences with focus on Clinical Research. As a result of this training and associated opportunities, I have had a lot of chances to write articles and participate in creating textbooks. I have co-edited and co-authored a book about managing diabetes in the hospital, called Glycemic Control in the Hospitalized Patient, published by Springer in 2010. I have written articles about clinical management of type 2 diabetes and counseling interventions for weight loss, both reviews and reports of original research. Since coming to MCNT, I have enjoyed creating practical and simple educational materials for patients and doctors.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband and kids, especially being outdoors. When the weather keeps us in, I enjoy yoga, baking, and knitting.
I live in Fort Worth with my family and 2 dogs.
