About Me

I have always wanted to be a doctor. For me, scientific pursuit was always a natural instinct. To be able to use that talent now to cure my neighbors is truly a blessing. My passion for medicine led me to surgery. After completing my general surgery training, I chose to subspecialize in colorectal surgery. Approaching complex and sensitive issues with humor and a positive attitude has helped me gain the confidence of both patients and physicians, and is the likely reason I’ve been elected one of D Magazine’s Best Doctors in Dallas nine times. My favorite part of my job is getting to know my patients. I listen, consider their concerns and baseline health, then find an appropriate solution to help improve their life.

I was born near Mineral Wells, Texas. My father was an Army pilot and my mother is a German immigrant. We moved to New Orleans where my mother graduated from LSU Dental School and became one of the first female dentists in Louisiana. I’m certain my work ethic and drive come from her. After earning my bachelor’s degree at the University of New Orleans and Master’s degree at Louisiana State University, I attended LSU Medical School-Shreveport where I finished in the top five of my class. I completed my general surgery residency at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, and my colorectal surgery residency at UT Health Science Center in Houston. There are currently 1,281 board-certified colorectal surgeons in America and Canada. Only 102 are women—and I’m proud to be one of them.

I live in Waxahachie, Texas on a little hay farm with a small herd of grass-fed Longhorns. My husband, Steven, is the love of my life, and my children are my pride and joy.
