JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position:  Cashier                                                           Classification:  Full Time/Hourly

               Receptionist  

                                                           

Reports To:  Site Manager                                             Location:  Denton

JOB SUMMARY:

Greets, instructs, and directs patients and visitors to Ancillary Services.  Serves as a liaison

between patient and medical support staff.  Answers telephones, schedules patients, verifies

insurance, collect co-pays, issues cash receipts, maintains cash drawer.  Post charges payments

and directs inquiries on patient accounts.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.           Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.

2.           Checks-in patients, verifies insurance coverage, updates and files necessary information in the computer and patient charts, including obtaining referrals if required.

3.           Answers telephone, assists callers with information, schedules ancillary services when needed.  Runs daily schedules for x-ray, mammography, bone density, and anti-coagulant clinic.

4.           Verifies sign-in to appointment schedule.

5.           Generates Careslips for all ancillary services, including standing labs.

6.           Maintains work area and lobby and observes patient flow.

7.           Totals charges on Careslips and checks for diagnosis.

8.           Receives payments from patients and issues receipts.

9.           Posts charges, payments in computer and maintains records and reports.

10.        Balances charges, payments, adjustments, credit card charges and cash on a daily basis.  Works undistributed payment report and Careslip control log on a daily basis.

11.        Checks audit journal for keying errors and prepare bank deposit with Site Manager’s authorization.

12.     Performs other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.           High school degree or equivalent, and one-year previous medical office experience.

2.           General office skills, 10-key and computer knowledge and abilities.

3.           Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, insurance and managed care concepts.

4.           Effective communication and skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.

5.         Ability to work as a team member and demonstrate a customer service attitude.

 

INTERACTIONS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:

                           All levels of employees at the site and at the corporate level.  General public and heavy patient

                                    contact.  Normal office environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires ability to handle cash and to count money at high volumes. Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stretching, and lightweight lifting. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate verbal and written reports.  Ability to manage time and stress efficiently.
