JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY:                Provides coverage for professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.  Prepares patients during office visits and assists patients and family members before, during and after doctor’s visit.  Works under the direct supervision of the physician.  Refers matters outside the scope of duties to the physician or Site Manager.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.        Performs general nursing care to patients, administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

2.        Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.

3.        Observes records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to the physician.  Administers prescribed medications as directed.

4.        Oversees appointment bookings and ensures preferences are given to patients in more urgent situations.  Maintains the timely flow of patients.

5.        Greets patients and prepares them for examination, screens patients for appropriate information and instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.

6.        Arranges for patient testing and admissions to the hospital.

7.        Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls, instructs patients and family members regarding medications and treatment instructions, and assists with referrals.

8.        Formulates and updates patient care plans, and orders, prepares, and inspects patients charts, posts test and examination results.

9.        Prepares examination rooms, including restocking of supplies in treatment area.

10.     Attends required meetings and participates in team activities and professional development activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

               

1.     High school diploma or equivalent, graduate of an accredited vocational nursing school, or medical assistant certification program.

2.        Two years nursing experience a clinical practice.

3.        Valid state license, if applicable.

4.        Ability to travel to various sites.

5.        Ability to work in a stressful environment under deadline situations.

6.        Ability to communicate with coworkers and patients in an effective manner.

7.        Ability to use a computer and enter data in a medical management application.

 

INTERACTIONS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

All levels of employees at the site and heavy patient contact.  Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Involves standing and walking.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds.  Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to bodily fluids.
