JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position:  Insurance Specialist                                         Classification:  Full Time/Hourly

                                                                                                           

Reports To:  Central Business Office Manager               Location:  Central Business Office

                                                                                                                                                           

 

JOB SUMMARY:        Follows up on insurance claims after EDI submission for HMO/PPO insurance plans, processes insurance correspondence with insurance carriers and patients to resolve issues, answers telephone and maintains files as necessary.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.        Assists in the collecting on insurance claims including HMO/PPO claims.

2.        Processes HMO/PPO correspondence, appeals and insurance forms.

3.        Follow-up with insurance companies ensuring that claims are paid.

4.        Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages and provides information.

5.        Maintains fax logs, phone logs for insurance reference.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.                    High school degree or equivalent.

2.                    Three years previous insurance follow-up experience.

2.                    General office skills and computer knowledge including Windows experience.

3.                    Knowledge of medical terminology and an understanding of insurance claims process, working knowledge of managed care, HMO and PPO benefits and concepts.

4.                    Effective communication skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.

5.                    Ability to work as a team member and demonstrate a customer service attitude.

 

INTERACTIONS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:

All levels of employees at the site and at the corporate level.  Heavy patient contact. Normal office environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stretching, and lightweight lifting (up to 50 pounds).  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate verbal and written reports.  Ability to manage time and stress efficiently.  Ability to drive from site to site.
