JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position:  Echo Technologist                                           Classification:  Full Time/ Hourly

                                               

Reports To:  Manager/Director of Diagnostic Services.                                                Location: 

                                                                                                                                                                                   

 

JOB SUMMARY:      Provides ultrasound diagnostic tests for patients  

 

 

 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.        Performs ultrasonic diagnostics procedures as directed by physicians.

2         Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results.

2.        Positions patients. Selects appropriate transducer.

3.        Conducts scanning procedures using ultrasound equipment. Moves scanner over specified body area, and adjusts equipment to focus.

4.        Makes hard copy images. Documents tests.

5.        Maintains ultrasound equipment. Orders and stocks all ultrasound supplies. Leaves rooms clean and stocked for next day.

6.        Prepares patients for physician and assists during examination.

7.        Maintains department records, reports, and files.

8.        Keeps work area clean.

9.        Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

10.     Participates in staff development and educational activities.

11.     Maintains patient confidentiality.

12.     Performs related work as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.        High school diplomas or equivalent and certification in diagnostic ultrasound.

2.        At least six months experience as ultrasound technician.

3.        Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology to pinpoint area of imaging.

4.        Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.

5.        Skill in operating ultrasound equipment.

6.        Skill in taking vital signs.

7.        Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.

8.        Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.

9.        Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.

10.     Ability to maintain quality control standards.

11.     Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

12.     Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.

              13.  Ability to work with little or no supervision.

 

 

 

INTERACTIONS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

                                All levels of employees at the site and heavy patient contact.  Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances and other conditions common to a clinical environment.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Involves standing and walking.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds.  Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to bodily fluids.
