JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position:  Clerical Float                                                  Classification:  Full Time/Hourly

 

Reports To:  Site Manager                                             Location: East Region

JOB SUMMARY:      Provides coverage at the site for receptionist, cashier, medical records or appointment

                                      scheduling.  Greets, instructs, and directs patients and visitors.  Serves as a liaison between

                                      patient and medical support staff.  Also answers telephone, schedules patients, posts charges,

                                      and receives cash payments as needed.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  2. Checks-in patients, verifies, updates and files necessary information in the computer and the patient charts.
  3. Verifies eligibility and insurance coverage, including referrals if required.
  4. Maintains new patient chart components.
  5. Answers telephone, takes non-emergent messages, assists callers with information.
  6. Verifies sign-in to appointment schedule.
  7. Generates super-bills for all sign-ins for lab injections and work-ins.
  8. Assists with preparing charts for the next day.
  9. Hands out referrals, samples, x-rays, RX’s, etc. to walk-in patients.
  10. Maintains work area and lobby and observes patient flow.
  11. Assists in scheduling appointments, when needed.
  12. Posts charges and receives payments and issues receipts.
  13. Posts payments and answers inquires on patient accounts.
  14. May file medical records or other correspondence as needed.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school degree or equivalent, and one year previous medical office experience.
  2. General office skills and computer knowledge.
  3. Knowledge of all clerical functions, including reception, cashier, appointment scheduling, medical  

records, and switchboard, as applicable to the site.             

  1. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  2. Effective communication skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  3. Ability to work as a team member and demonstrate a customer service attitude.
  4. Ability to travel within the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

 

INTERACTIONS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:

All levels of employees at the site and at the corporate level.  General public and heavy patient contact. Normal office environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stretching, and lightweight lifting. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires ability to handle cash and to count money at high volumes.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate verbal and written reports.  Ability to manage time and stress efficiently.
